A brutal collision that killed four people at a busy intersection one morning. Even as the shutter click on this image I knew it would take first place in the annual photojournalism competition (which it did) and that thought really turned my stomach. It's one thing to stay emotionally insulated from what you are capturing -- it's a mental survival mechanism. But having that thought, even as I was within the scene, was just plain sickening.
