Motel Courtyard, Tucumcari, NM -- So to kill time I hop on the Internet and leave a message on a photo forum I frequent that I am broken down in Tucumcari with a probable dead alternator. 45-minutes later I hit the shop to see if they have looked at it yet. Yep, car is done and it was the alternator ... ouch! As I am getting ready to pay the mechanic gets this serious look on his face and I think, "Oh crap, what's this going to cost me!" I'm all ready for the "we needed to jet the part in from Zanzibar so the cost was higher than expected" ... but instead I hear ... "Now we had a Visa card user -- we can't reveal his name -- call us about 15 minutes ago to put $150 down towards the bill on Dave Hickey's Explorer repair!!!" You could have knocked me over with a feather! Talk about instantly transforming a lousy situation into an incredibly beautiful moment! While I still don't know the actual identity of that kind soul, I do know his user name on that forum. He requested I not unmask him and I reluctantly agreed -- but I'm eternally grateful for his incredible gesture and kindness to me. The images from this trip are dedicated to him ... thanks "Mr. E" :-)
